Lawyers are professionals who take ultimate responsibility for the particular legal work of a client. However, they are often assisted in their tasks by their paralegals. They also perform the task of getting the affidavits and helping the attorneys in various cases. So, in a way all the preparatory work of the attorney is taken care of by the paralegals. Their services also prove to be of great assistance to prepare tax returns, plan estates and to establish trust funds.

However, it is essential to note that all these duties or tasks performed by paralegal must be done under the supervision of an attorney. Also, the tasks performed by them depend a lot on their specialization and the legal firm or attorney they are working with. Like a corporate attorney is generally concerned with employee contracts, stock-option plans, shareholder agreements and to prepare documents for the firm to secure loans. Therefore, a paralegal working with the particular firm would mostly carry out only such tasks.

Apart from this, most paralegals nowadays are also required to be well-versed with the basics of computer. Internet and many computer software solutions are used nowadays to search for legal literature. Computer databases are used to organize, index and retrieve necessary records whenever required. For instance, billing software programs help paralegals keep a track of hours billed to the various clients. Tax computations and the results of several tax strategies can also be analyzed through the various software packages.
